How to claude code skills work?
Each skill advertises a short description; the agent reads the descriptions and loads a skill's full instructions when the task matches.
A Claude Code skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file. The file starts with YAML frontmatter (name and description) followed by Markdown instructions. Personal skills live under ~/.claude/skills/; project skills live under .claude/skills/ in the repository.
That is why the description matters most: it is the trigger. A vague description means the skill is loaded late or never. Keep the body focused so loading it costs little context.
