How to write a Claude agent skill
- Name the trigger, not the feature
A skill is selected by its description, so write the description as the situation it belongs in. - Keep the instructions short enough to be read
Everything in the skill body competes for the model's attention with the user's actual task. - Put the long reference behind a file
Load detail on demand rather than pasting it into the skill body. - Test the trigger with prompts that should NOT fire it
A skill that fires on everything is worse than no skill; check the negative cases. - Version it and publish the changelog
Consumers need to know what changed before they upgrade.

Every review below comes from a logged-in account, was approved by a moderator, and carries a disclosure of any family, employment, free-access or discount connection to the team, per the FTC endorsement guides (16 CFR 465). We publish no aggregate score: a handful of early-user ratings is not a market rating. See all reviews.
